First fish of the year

Post  FRENCHY on 2012-03-01, 14:15

That's right gents... FRENCHY is back on BDB! Hope this post finds everyone well with full freezers of venison and waterfowl.
Well, it's time to get down to business on the water now. The French boys are off to a great start. My son and I went down on Northeast River and fished from the bank for yellow perch on President's Day and we came home with 10 keepers. Keeper yellow perch must be at least 9 inches and each angler may keep 10 per day. We had a nice little fish fry for dinner!

On the following Sunday, 2/25, I got an invite to go out on my buddy Mike's 17 foot center console with another pal, Jeff, to see if we couldn't find a few more of the yellow beauties. We loaded up with 2 dozen blood worms, 1 dozen nightcrawlers and 3 dozen shiners. PROGRAMMING NOTE- Don't waste your time or money fishing for yellow perch with bloodworms. We shoved off at 9:15, out of Anchor Marina, and ran out a couple hundred yards into the channel. We caught em pretty much right away and action became fast and furious. We ran out of bait and had to run back in to get 4 more dozen shiners, as that's what we were nailing them on. We got back out to a slightly different spot and got back into the fish pretty quickly. During the afternoon sit I managed to hook into a 6 lb.-25 inch channel cat that drug me all the way around the boat. That was FUN! We managed to all get a limit by 3:45 and we were homebound to start the real work of fileting 30 yellow perch. We finished up just before dark and it's a good thing... the libations were really flowing at that point. Save for a few cuts on my poor left hand it was quite a wonderful day.

I'm keeping my ears open for the white perch run to come on down in Millington if anyone is interested. I'll post what I'm hearing from this point forward. Stay tuned and ready to get tuned! Haha, sometimes I even make myself laugh.[img][/img]

Now this is what I am talking about, someone actually getting down to some business! I have been so distracted and busy I barely hunted and damn sure haven't started fishing. I am living vicariously through you!

Would love to catch up and get in some fising, I could use a good day of fishing and adult beverages.

Keep us posted!!!!!
