The perch are running

Post  FRENCHY on 2011-03-14, 09:48

As promised from the hunting page...

Headed down to Millington yesterday morning to see if the white perch are running yet, as the yellows have just spawned out and disappeared. I grabbed a container of grass shrimp at Sarge's and headed south. When I first got to town I pulled in to the park to see how many trucks were there, as that is a tell-tale sign as to whether or not the perch are there. I counted about 20 trucks so I was excited to say the least. I sat there for a few minutes and watched to see if anybody was catching anything. It didn't take long to notice that guys on both sides, up and down the banks of the river were hitting 'em regularly. I quickly got on the phone and called as many of my buds as I have numbers for and knew that could make it down there. Unfortunately I only reached 1, but at least I wasn't going to be having all the fun by myself. From the park I moved over to my favorite spot back on the railroad tracks. It took me a little while to figure out where exactly they were as the tide was ripping through on one side and eddying on the other. Eventually I was able to get on 'em pretty regularly. When my buddy, Mike, finally showed up I had 6 in the bucket and had hooked at least 20. When it was all said and done, after about 4 hours of solid fishing, we had 45 keepers in the bucket and had caught at least 125, betweeen the 2 of us. All but 1 of our keepers were male so the bigger females have not come into the creeks yet.

Planning on going again next Sunday after TechnoHunt.
All are welcome!

You will need:
MD Tidal fishing license
Grass shrimp
Chartreuse shad darts (1/8 oz)
Weighted bobber
Light rod and reel combo w/4-8 lb. test line
5 gal. bucket
Your favorite cold beverage for fishing

Now that is fishing! I just might have to take you up on your offer this Sunday and try to stock up the freezer with some fish. Are they a good eatin' fish?

Absolutely! Batter dipped in a homemade mix or just a simple pancake mix and fried in hot oil. A few ice cold brews. Man, it just doesn't get much better than that.

I will be meeting with someone soon (Michelle) who can hopefully show me how to post some pictures. I'm a borderline idiot when it comes to technology.

Between you and Plumber she is going to start charging me a technical consulting fee Laughing. All kidding aside we are all for seeing pics if you have them! Sometime we have to live vicariously through everyone else as we can't get out in the woods as often as we would like.

Reminds me of a Tommy Boy quote: You can take a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's a$$, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?

lol!
